I’m an experienced teacher, a certified NLP coach and CIEP-trained copy-editor. I have a real passion for improving things, whether that’s tweaking the typos in a document for publication or helping someone refine the pacing and plot of their novel.
I get a nerdy pleasure in ferreting out a typo or clarifying a point of grammar, and I love being able to help people refine their manuscripts. Stories are at the heart of the human experience, and there’s nothing better than helping someone shape and perfect the story they want to tell.
As a writer myself I know the importance of communicating feedback in a constructive and encouraging way, and nearly twenty years as a teacher has made me very good at doing so. You can trust that my comments will be incisive and supportive, balancing an appreciation for the positive aspects of your work as well as highlighting areas for further development.
Human creativity is precious, and a writer’s voice and ideas should always be their own. I will not enter any part of the work you send me into generative AI apps or platforms, such as ChatGPT, and I do not use AI tools in the editing process. AI assistants are also disabled in my email account, Word preferences and pdf viewer.
Before working with you, I will require you to confirm that the work you are sending me is your own creation, and that it has not been produced by generative AI software. I view this as my ethical obligation in an industry that is becoming more and more inundated with AI-generated work, to the detriment of writers everywhere.
Any work you send me is your own and I have no claim to any of the rights thereto.
I will keep a copy of the edited version of your work in a password-protected file for three months after the date I send it back to you. This is to allow me to follow up on any questions you may have about my suggested edits. After this date, I will delete the file.
I will not share any details or extracts of your work to any third parties, unless this is with your explicit, written consent.
I will not share your contact details with any third parties unless this is with your explicit, written consent.
For more details on how I use your data, please see my privacy policy.
