This privacy policy outlines how I collect, use and protect your personal data.
Legitimate Interest
I collect and store the following data in order to provide manuscript review, copyediting and proofreading services:
contact information (your name, email address and phone number)
email correspondence
payment information
calendar bookings
work that you would like me to copyedit, proofread or review.
This website also collects personal data for the purposes of site analytics and form submissions. For more information about this, please see the section at the bottom of this page.
Legitimate reasons for processing this personal data
Communication: to schedule feedback sessions, share edited files, respond to your enquiries, and/or follow up on anything related to the services you have asked me to provide.
Payment: to collect payment for services rendered.
Delivery of service: to provide effective feedback tailored to your needs, and to deliver the copyediting, proofreading or manuscript review services you have requested.
Legal obligations: I may use your information to comply with legal obligations or in response to lawful requests.
Insurance: I am required to keep a record of the service I have provided you for 3 years after the date of payment.
Additional Consent
I may ask for your additional consent to use your data in order to:
send you information about offers and other services I provide
share your testimonials for marketing purposes.
In these instances, your consent is entirely voluntary and can be withdrawn at any time. If you choose to withhold or withdraw your consent it will in no way affect the quality of service you receive or my ability to deliver it.
How long your data is retained
Your personal data will be stored for 3 years from the date of final delivery of service. This will be either the date you receive your edited work via email, or (if applicable) the date of our feedback session via video call, whichever is later.
How your data is protected
I implement the following measures to ensure your data is as secure as possible:
Files stored electronically are password protected.
Two-factor authentication is enabled where possible.
Software and security systems are updated regularly and promptly.
Video calls are carried out using secure, password-protected platforms such as Google Meet and Zoom.
My devices are locked and password protected when not in use.
Although I do my best to protect the personal information you provide me with, I must advise you that no method of data storage or transmission is 100% secure and no one can guarantee absolute data security. Should I become aware of a data breach I will comply with UK GDPR requirements with regard to reporting it.
Sharing your data
I will not share your data with a third party unless with your written or verbal consent. The exceptions to this are:
if I believe you to be in danger of harming yourself or other people
if any illegal activity is disclosed to me that must be reported to the authorities
if otherwise required to do so by law.
Your Rights
Right of access
You have the right to access and receive a copy of all the personal data I hold about you.
Right to rectification
You have the right to request that any personal data I hold about you is rectified, if inaccurate, or completed if it is incomplete.
Right to data portability
You have the right to receive any data I hold about you that has been electronically collected or provided to me (name, contact details and, where provided, payment information) or request that I share this with a third party.
Right to object*
You have the right to object to the processing of your personal data.
Right to erasure*
You have the right to request that some or all personal data held about you is deleted.
Right to restrict processing*
You have the right to restrict the processing of your personal data where you have a particular reason for wanting to do so. For example:
If you are concerned about the accuracy of your personal information.
If you believe your personal information has been unlawfully processed.
If you need me to maintain the personal information solely for the purpose of a legal claim.
If you have already objected to me processing your data and I am considering whether or not my legitimate grounds override yours.
*Please note that your rights to object, to restrict processing and to erasure do not apply to the data I am required to retain for insurance purposes. In this case your data is being used ‘for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims’ and the previously mentioned rights therefore do not apply. As part of the feedback process, I may provide you with suggestions for or links to useful online resources to help you further with your writing process. These are offered in good faith and links are always checked before sending. However, you should exercise the usual caution when visiting any of these websites, such as ensuring your virus protection software is up to date, and not clicking on any suspicious links, pop-ups or advertisements on those websites. I do not accept any responsibility for damage or data breaches incurred as a result of your visiting these sites. These websites will also will have their own privacy and data collection policies that I would advise you to read before agreeing to.
